A few realizations

I can’t believe its been half a month since the college started. It came crashing on me when the instructor reminded me of the test 1 scheduled to be in the next week. And I have an announced test tomorrow. I have absolutely no idea on what it would be; the best part is that, it is an open book component.

The lectures are going at a very fast pace, test 1 is fast approaching and I haven’t even opened my text books (in some cases I haven’t bought). I don't know what will happen if this continues.

Just another holiday

I happened to watch a program in maa tv in which they took the opinion of several people on whether festivals now a days have lost their charm. I would agree with the majority, that festivals these days are just holidays. Even sankranthi (peddapanduga) has become just another holiday.

We may not be celebrating on a grand scale even in the past. But atleast we used to get up early and  take head bath by 5am on bhogi, and prepare pongal made with newly harvested rice on sankranthi, but as of now I feel it has become just ritualistic, the whole concept of thanksgiving is not present. People (even those who are not farmers) generally worship the deity for giving a good crop and prepare various food items with the newly harvested rice and offer. Just a few years earlier, in villages the festive mood used to go on for 15 days which now came down to 3 days.  If this continues, children of future generation would question as to why we celebrate pongal. I sincerely hope that wouldn’t happen.

Anyways, I have been to my uncle’s house for the festival, my routine being getting up at 9am, have breakfast, watch the tv, have lunch, afternoon nap, movie outside, and dinner followed by full fledged slumber. I have travelled in the interior places of telangana for the first time and I truly appreciate the landscape there. Even though its all dry, and full of reddish soil (quite different from the one I was used to, I mean lack of green fields), but still it was a memorable experience.

The one thing I would like to know is that why does Indian hospitality is associated with serving lots of foodstuffs? It just puts the guest in an uncomfortable position. If he or she refuses the host feels bad and says ‘I have prepared all these for you, and you are hurting me by refusing’. Its is a good thing to serve him but not till the point of making him feel ‘why on earth have I visited your home’. So, lets put the guest’s comfort above everything else.

It is purely based on my personal experience. No pun intended.

New semester

The last week at campus was horrible at the very least. I was given introduction to my various courses. All of them promising to be boring n tough. That includes organic chemistry. My greatest fears lie in electrical sciences, measurement techniques and transport phenomena. The last one would no doubt succeed in giving me nightmares.

Coming back to my last semester’s performance. I got what I expected. C in maths 3, b in es 1, b in mech sol and a s in the rest 3. I should be disappointed with that sgpa, but I am not, which makes me feel if I am really sane. Whatever be the case, I am taking the commitment which I have taken 3 times earlier, to do my best in this sem. Hope I keep up to it.

Back again....

I have written many posts previously about not being able to stay at home without any thing to do. I was eager to go back to campus. Back in my room, meet my friends, n  commenting about the quality of food in the mess. But as I pack my bags now I feel an unfamiliar longing to be at home. How much ever I want to escape the boredom, I don’t want to leave home.

Fear of the Unknown

If you have watched some telugu movies, you must have come across this dialogue ‘nenu chavuku bayapadanu, ade nannu chusi bayapadutundi’. I am not commenting, but death is something which most of us fear.

When I was in my eleventh standard, one of my teachers, while explaining something said we fear death because of our fear of the unknown. No one knows what happens after we die. Do we just move on or come back again?

I haven’t ever seen a ghost, but I do believe in them, they are one of the reasons, even today I cannot sleep peacefully. However courageous I am during the day, but when it comes to night I suddenly remember all the horror movies I have seen, n all the stories I have ever heard. My mind says this is because I haven’t got anything else to think about, or any other work to do. Whatever be the reason if I stay awake during the night it is due to my fear of ghosts (those devils which come for me in a white saree, with long hair left loose, ankle bells sounding scary during late hours). Perhaps that is the reason I haven’t watched nagavalli, I didn’t want to spend the succeeding week without much sleep.

It’s not just death, but any other thing which we are apprehensive about, it is because of the fear of the unknown. It is 'cos of that fear we don’t embark on doing some things. I came across this quote “we all have a fear of the unknown, what one does with that fear will make all the difference in the world”. So, don’t let this fear rule us. I am not telling you to not fear death, but don’t be fearful to do something  just because you cannot predict the outcome or you don’t know what to expect.

My New year resolution

First post of the year. Hopefully I would write about some good things this year.

Every year I think ‘I have to do this, I have to do that’ but failing to keep up to it. It has become normal for me. Like, I would do my best the coming semester or I will try to give up my addictions. I am trying to give up my petty sentiments; for eg  whatever you do on 1st day of year you will keep doing it the whole year. Like every year I hope to maintain a dairy but let’s see if I can keep it up.

I came across this article in The Hindu magazine today; ‘let your new year resolution to be not to fear fear and go against it’. It made me ponder upon the current scenario, people getting more and more addicted, let it be to alcohol or social networking or anything else. It is mostly due to insecurity.

Anyways, I thought it not at all beneficial to go for a long list saying what to do and what not to do, rather I had only one thing in my mind. Whatever you do, do it in a way which you wouldn’t regret later.
